Dangers of Syntheitc Scents

Hannah has fairly significant asthma and has struggled with synthetic scents triggering her reactive airways her whole life. Sometimes, its a real pain, but she's always managed. Joe is prone to scent-induced headaches and again, it can be a real pain, but fortunately for us, we are always able to remove ourselves from a triggering scent. We are able to communicate that a scent may be causing, or heightening, a migraine or a mood change and that we need to get some fresh air......

Unfortunately, our Benji, and others like him, may not be as fortunate. Benji is non-verbal. He has COPD and while he is mobile, he is not free to escape a situation that may be triggering a physiological response from him. Artificial scents are EVERYWHERE. Grandma's perfume, the bathroom soap, disinfectant wipes in the class room, window cleaner, lotions and hand sanitizers, room sprays, colones, laundry soaps, candles, plug-ins, bubble bath . .  . the list goes on and on.

Since we ditched these artificial scents, Hannah's asthma has improved.... and its no surprise, Benji's COPD has improved as well. Benji's health has drastically improved, yet he still has considerable health needs as well as significant developmental delay. If we're going to go to the trouble to provide a whole-foods blended diet because we're concerned about what we're putting into his body, we would be hypocrites to ignore the toxin-chemicals he's absorbing through his blood stream! Aromatically, that Windex hits Benji's brain in just 3 seconds...... topically, that bubble bath is being absorbed into his cells in just 26 seconds.

Often times we see that those with Special Needs already have an increased risk for medical concerns.... those with Down Syndrome for instance are at a higher risk for leukemia, thyroid dysfunction, lung conditions, Alzheimers etc. Did you know that synthetic scents heighten the risk of Cancer, Autism, Allergic Reactions, Poisoning (from a toxic build-up) Allergic Reactions, Breathing Difficulty, Learning Disabilities, and much more ...... check out the graphic below from Dr Axe. The list goes on and on....

These are NOT things I am willing to expose my children to - especially my already-compromised child. For what? The cheap $1 Store Elmo Soap?! NOT WORTH IT.

Benji doesn't have a voice to speak up and say "please don't use that Windex in my therapy room, it gives me a headache!" or "please don't light that candle around me, it makes my lungs wheeze" or "please don't use that room spray around me. It gets into my lungs and they can spasm triggering my COPD" or "please don't put that lotion on me - it taxes my liver which is already working very hard to keep me well" or "that plug-in gives me brain fog and makes it even harder for me focus and learn."

Google "side effects of" some of the chemical names above and then go into your bathroom and read over 3 labels - do any of your products have these toxins??? We sure did! Before we know better, our home was cluttered with that poison! Not now.... we've swapped out a ton of stuff. "When you know better, do better"

Benji's little brain and body need all the support we can give it. He needs proper nutrition, fresh air, plenty of sleep, lots of love, and less exposure to toxic substances. We are the "gate keepers" of our home and while we cannot control every exposure, we can control what we allow into our home.

There are safer, Non-Toxic Alternatives - - -

For instance, instead of a toxic candle or plug-in, how about An Essential Oil Diffuser? Instead of taxing your body's systems from a candle or plug-in, support your body while diffusing immune-boosting pure, organic, plant-based essential oils.

Remember how we said in the beginning that Hannah is very sensitive to scents? She has very reactive asthma and its easily triggered by cold and scents.... however, these Essential Oils have never aggravated her asthma, not once. That speaks volumes about the purity of these oils. . . These are the scents that God designed for us to use..... PLANTS. Not parfum, phthalate, DEP, DBP, DEHP or any of those other synthetic, toxic chemical scents.
